Dear Friends,

The Moon is one of the most powerful celestial bodies that effects life here on Earth. In magick, it’s just as important. Many pagans use it, in conjunction with the Sun, as a Deity. The Moon reflects the Goddess herself because they share the capacity to exist in three different phases. Working with the Moon is one of the basics of practicing magick and in today’s post, I want to share with you how to use moon magick and a few special spells from my own books that deal with the Moon.

In order to use Lunar Magick (another name for Moon magick), you’ll need to know exactly what the moon is doing at any given time. The moon goes through phases each month that aren’t “regular” according to our Gregorian calendar. In ancient times, the months passed with the Moon but since mankind “got in the way” we’ve been off kilter ever since (in more ways than one)! But I digress.

In order to keep up with the Moon accurately, I suggest that you invest in a Witches’ Almanac. This will give you accurate dates of the phases of the moon for any given year. Even if your magick is not specific to the Moon, you should try to schedule your rituals for times that will correspond with the Moon’s phases.

The New Moon takes place from the day of the new moon to three-and-a-half days after.
The new moon is for starting new ventures, new beginnings as well as love and romance, health or job hunting.

The Waxing Moon is from seven to fourteen days after the new moon. The waxing moon is for constructive magic, like love, wealth, success, courage, friendship, luck or health.

The Full Moon takes place from fourteen to seventeen-and-a-half days after the new moon.
This is an ideal time for rituals for prophecy, protection, divination. It’s also appropriate for any spells that needs extra power, such finding a new job or healing for serious conditions. You can also schedule spells for legal matters, money and dreams during the Full Moon.

The Waning Moon is from three-and-a-half to ten-and-a-half days after the full moon. The waning moon is used for banishing magic, for ridding oneself of addictions, illness or negativity.

The Dark Moon is from ten-and-a-half to fourteen days after the full moon.
The dark moon is a time for dealing with attackers, for exploring our darkest places and
understanding our angers and passions.

Keep these moon phases in mind whenever you are doing magick rituals and you’ll know that you’ll have the Moon and her power on your side. If you wish to connect further with the Moon, you can use the following ritual. It’s called a Moon soak and offers you a powerful way to connect with the Moon’s power at any time during the month.

To start, prepare a small dish of white flower petals mixed with a small amount of Epsom salts and scented with a few drops of jasmine oil. You’ll also need a silver or a light blue candle. Start out by drawing a warm bath. Light your candle and turn off all other lights, adding some soft background music if you so choose. Disrobe and look out a window, if possible, to see the Moon. If you can’t see her, visualize her in whatever phase she is in. Ask the Lady of the Moon to bless you, and draw down her power, as you anoint your forehead, head, throat, heart, abdomen, loins, and feet, each with a drop of jasmine oil. Finally, toss your Epsom salt mixture into the bath, step in, and enjoy in the Moon’s power.

Finally, here’s a spell for the Waxing moon that will help you fulfill a wish. Take a beeswax candle and use a rose thorn to inscribe a moon into the candle. Cast your circle as you normally would and then light the beeswax candle. Concentrate on the flame and think about your wish. After you’ve held the wish firmly in your mind for a while, say the following nine times:

Gracious Lady Moon
Mother of Love and Light
Grant My Wish
Fulfill My Dreams
Smile on Me Tonight

Once you’ve finished your chanting, extinguish the flame but keep the image of it in your mind. As you think about the burning flame, know that your wish has been fulfilled. Within the next lunar phase, your wish will be granted.

Whether you choose to use one of these spells, or one of your own creation, know that the Moon is always on your side. Take steps to line your magick up with the Moon’s cycles and you’ll always have effective spells.

Brightest Blessings,

Dear Friends,

There’s nothing quite like being in love and losing that love. Everyone experiences heartbreak, and some people are more prone to letting it effect them profoundly. I’ve had a lot of friends who have experienced complete emotional breakdown for months after losing a love relationship. While I have certain moral qualms about using love spells that effect another person, I’ve always advised my friends to try a spell to mend their broken heart.

These spells are different from “traditional” love spells in that they are focused on helping you heal your own heart. They are simple ways of making yourself “right” after losing a significant love relationship. Instead of trying to change your ex-lover’s heart and control them through magick (something I definitely do not recommend), it’s better to focus on liberating yourself and moving on. Getting yourself ready to accept more love into your life with someone else is the best thing that you can do after a break up.

Sometimes, when you break up with someone what you really need most is to get rid of the lingering feelings of love and attachment. These are what makes breaking up the most difficult. The following spell will help you free your heart from attachment to another.

You’ll need nine candles, three black, three white and three red. You’ll also need something to represent your lost love. I recommend using a poppet of some sort, but make sure it’s small enough to fit into your cauldron.

Dress the candles in dragon’s blood oil and then start your ritual as you normally would. Place the nine candles in alternating colors around you, light them in a counter clockwise fashion and sit in the center facing North. Repeat the following words and place an object from your love in the poppet. Then place the poppet into the cauldron.

The words you need to repeat are as follows:

Your love will wither and depart
from my life and my heart.
Let me be (your love’s name)
and go away forever.

Once you’ve said these words, light the poppet on fire and let it burn completely. Bury the ashes and any remaining pieces of the poppet.

The next spell is something that you can use if you want to focus on personal healing and growth rather than working to ban the person from your life. You’ll need a red candle (for strength), two white candles (for healing) and a piece of paper.

Cast your circle as you normally would and then write down the name of your past love on the piece of paper. Place the white candles to the left and the right of the red candle. Light the red candle first, then the two white candles. As you light the candles, repeat the following words, and then light the piece of paper with the flame from the red candle:

I burn your name so it shall be
Cast out of my memory
(name of your love) your name burns with fire
To get over you is my desire.

Once you light the paper on fire, place it in your cauldron to continue burning. Snuff out the red candle and bury it with the ashes. Let the white candle continue to burn until it is done.

If you’re fond of potions, you may want to try this potion that will help you stop loving someone. This potion has been helpful, in my circle’s experience, to end feelings of love for someone who isn’t returning your love. Fair warning, this potion doesn’t taste great but it is very effective. Hold your nose and take the plunge.

Make the potion by mixing together equal parts ginger, cinnamon, lemon and water. Add a dash of salt and pepper and crush three rose petals into the mix. You should gather your ingredients and do all of the mixing of the potion within your ritual circle. You’ll need a white candle and a black candle for the ceremony, as well as an uncooked bean of some sort.

Once you’ve mixed up the potion, light the black candle and say the following:

Banish my feelings of love for (your love’s name)
He/she has no place in my life any longer
I move on from these feelings
And choose my new life.
So mote it be.

At this point, you drink the potion. You may want to have some extra water near by to wash it down. After you’ve drank it, repeat the following while holding the bean:

Thank you God and Goddess for renewing my heart,
I am ready to accept the new in my life.

The bean represents new life and potential. Sleep with it under your bed pillow for seven days and then plant it somewhere in your garden. Each time you see the bean plant, you’ll be reminded of the new life that you’ve created after getting over your love.

Dear Friends,

Gossip is not limited to celebrities and gossip magazines. Depending on what social circles you swim in, gossip may be a slight annoyance or something will make or break you socially. While you can’t completely bind people because of free will, these spells will help you reduce or eliminate the impact that gossip has on your life.

A lot of people associate gossip with being in high school or being at a young age. I’m living proof that gossip can spread to other parts of your life. A few years ago (way past high school age) my personal reputation was being damaged by one of my former students. She was going through a lot of personal problems but they manifested as attacks toward me. I used the first of these spells to bind her speech and stop the negativity.

You can also use these spells to eliminate negative influences from your life. Gossip can take many, many forms and just because you don’t have someone talking about you behind your back, doesn’t mean their opinion of you isn’t effecting how they present you to others. I’ve seen this happen a lot in the workplace or social situations. Even though the speech and attitudes of the group wouldn’t qualify as out right gossip, they can still be harmful. If you feel like you’re being unfairly judged, these spells will work for you as well.

This first spell is similar to the binding charm that I’ve taught on this blog, but it’s specifically built for gossip, slander and negative talk. This is exactly what I used to stop the woman who was trying to wreck my reputation.

For this spell, you’ll need a piece of paper for each person who is gossiping (there could be more than one). If you have a large group of people, like your co-workers, just write down their name as a group: “Co-workers”

Take your piece of paper, fold it three times and place it inside a glass bottle that has been consecrated with pine oil, sandalwood oil or some other banishing oil blend. Fill the bottle half way up with water and then put it in the freezer. As you place to the bottle in, say the following:

I place your acid tongues in the freezer
I bring a halt to slander, gossip and lies.
For the good of all concerned, and the harming of none
So Mote it be!

Keep the bottle in the freezer as long as you feel that you need to. When you feel like the threat has passed (like you become friends with the gossiping people), you can remove it or you can keep it there indefinitely.

Another simple charm for dealing with gossip requires a piece of paper and a consecrated red pin. Cast your circle as you normally would and burn sandalwood incense. Draw a tongue sticking out of a mouth on the paper, with a knife going through the tongue. This is to symbolize the holding down of someone’s gossiping tongue. Underneath your drawn, write down the following phrase three times:

The gossip, lies and backstabbing stop now.

Take the piece of paper outside on the night of a New Moon and bury it. Take comfort in knowing that your troubles with the people who were gossiping have ended.

This next spell needs to be completed on a Monday night during a waning moon. You’ll need a black candle that has been dressed with a banishing oil or dragon’s blood oil. If you have a tarot card deck, you should include the ten of swords card on your altar. This symbolizes the end of thoughts and speech which makes way for a new type of thoughts and speech.

Cast your circle as you normally would, and then light the black candle with your left hand. Repeat the following nine times:

Let these fools be silenced,
May their babble be canceled
May peace be mine, now and evermore.

Complete this ritual at the same time every night for the next seven days. Each night, allow the candle to burn for 17 minutes, and the last night let it burn out completely. Once the candle has burned, you’ll find that your troubles are gone.

No matter which of these spells you use, remember that the true power is in your own hands. These charms and spells are reminders that when you take the power back in your life, you eliminate negativity coming at you. Once you do your charm, don’t give the gossipers any more of your energy and time. Consider the manner finished with and it will be. If you approach it this way, instead of worrying about whether or not the spell has worked, you’ll be taking power away from the situation and allowing it to completely diffuse.

Dear Friends,

It’s often said that “Wherever you may be it is your friends who make your world.” In this spirit I’d like to share some spells with you that are geared toward making and keeping friends. The friendships that I’ve had in my lifetime have helped sustain me through tough times and my friends have been there to help me enjoy the good times. If you feel the same way about friendship that I do, you’ll enjoy these spells.

This first spell is to bring new friends into your life. You’ll need a pink candle, some friendship oil and two silk ribbons (one pink, one white). You should do this ritual during the waxing moon or the full moon. Cast the circle and start the ritual as you normally would. Then anoint the pink candle with friendship oil. As you do this, you want to visualize the activities and feelings you’ll experience while you’re enjoying your new friendships.

You can also name some of the things that are important to you in friendship, like trustworthiness, kindness and respect. Light the candle and imagine the flame bursting forth as energy that will bring a friend your way.

As you watch the flame burn, take the two pieces of ribbon and weave them together. You can simply wind them together. As you do this, visualize yourself bringing that friend closer to you. In a way, you are doing a binding ritual similar to what you’d find in a handfasting ritual. You’re binding a friend to you to make them loyal to you. Keep in mind that you do not want to name a specific. Only bind the idea of a friend to you.

Once you have done this, tie the ribbon to the base of your candle as best as you can. The candle’s light is a beacon to bring friendship to you and another person. When this is done, you may wish to sit and meditate on the spell that you have just cast, sending your energies out to bring that perfect friend to you. Let your candle burn all the way out and release your circle, thanking the Goddess and the God.

The next spell I’d like to share with you is a spell for when there’s a disagreement between you and a friend. It’s less of a ritual and more of a little spell to work that will help smooth the waters between you. For this, you’ll just need a greeting card and some lavender. Simply rub the card with lavender before you send the card, and think about your intentions (forgiveness, happiness, etc). When the receiver gets the card, they’ll experience the emotion that you concentrated on.

If you get into a fight with your friend, this is a good spell to encourage forgiveness and to help them see your side. You need a pink candle (love) and a blue candle (healing). This should be completed on a Friday night. Cast the circle like you normally would and then light both candles in turn. Repeat the following:

Please (name of person), do think again.
May the consequence heal my pain.
Grant my request to me and you’ll see,
The good in your heart set me free.
Bless you.

Snuff out the candles after you cast the spell and consider your work done.

Sometimes, you have an enemy who you’d like to turn into a friend. This is my absolute favorite way to take care of a problem with a person. Instead of fighting about it, I’d rather be friends.

For this spell, you’ll need a picture or drawing of the person causing trouble in your life, as well as vanilla incense. Cast your circle and then light the incense. Hold the picture in your right hand and then pass it through the incense three times. Repeat the following:

Enemy, enemy, turn into a friend.
Let all ill will now come to an end.

Finish your ceremony by placing a flower of your choice over the picture and putting it in a safe place.

This spell is great if you need someone to contact you. It works well if you have lost touch with someone who once was important in your life. It’s not to be used to manipulate anyone (as with all types of spells that involve other people). It’s purpose is to make the path for communication more open.

You need to have a white candle anointed with sandalwood oil before you start your ritual. You’ll also need a picture or drawing of the person in question, as well as some sandalwood incense, and a small glass of salt and a glass of water.

Cast your circle as you normally would and then light the white candle and the incense. Place the picture or drawing on your altar and then put a couple of tablespoons of salt in your right hand. Hold your hand over the glass of water and then allow the salt to fall from your hand into the the glass of water. As you are doing so, repeat “Call me” three times.

Place the glass with the salted water on your altar and say “Get in touch with me.” Generally, you’ll get a call, e-mail or letter from the person by the time the water has evaporated.

Brightest Blessings,

Dear Friends,

In this post, I’d like to share with you a few of my favorite wishing spells. Wishing spells are used when you have a wish or desire that you’d like to make come true. I recommend that you use this spell only when you are wishing for something that is really important and vital to you. These aren’t the types of spells that you should use on a casual basis, since the energies that you’ll be working with are temperamental. You can only alter fate so much until your spirit guides tell you enough is enough! Many a newcomer to this path has found that their wish spells have run out of effectiveness when they are used to much. Don’t less this discourage you from using these spells. Just keep in mind that you need to be thankful when they do work for you.

The first spell is very simple and just requires a lucky charm of some sort and a plain white candle. Whatever you use is up to you. Personally, I have a lucky stone that I use for these purposes. You can use a crystal or some other object that you have charged with lucky energy.

Ground and center yourself, cast your circle and then light the white candle. Hold the charm between your palms and kneel before the candle. Repeat the following three times and increase your intensity as you repeat the words:

This simple wish is mine to cast
A magick spell to make it last
I close my eyes, I ask for it
This wish is mine, deliver it

Stay in meditation for a few minutes and hold the charm while concentrating on your wish. After you’re done, find a safe place to let the candle burn out and place the charm in front of the candle.

The following spell requires a sheet of paper or parchment, a pen or a pencil that has been consecrated and a white candle. Before you start, you should do a relaxation ritual to clear your mind from your worries. Think of the spell and the energy you will be releasing.

After you’ve grounded, centered and cast your circle, draw a pentacle on the center of the paper and then draw a yin/yang symbol on top of the pentacle. Write your wish on the top of the sheet of paper. Once you’ve done this, light your white candle and concentrate on your wish.

Fold your sheet three times once you’ve meditated for a while, and then seal it with candle wax. Afterwards, burn the piece of paper in your cauldron and repeat your wish outloud over the ashes. The final step is to sprinkle the ashes outside to release your wish.

The final wishing spell I’d like to share with you needs to performed outside. You’ll need several herbs in their powdered form. Make sure that you have all of these herbs because in the case of this spell, no substitutes will do. You’ll need bay, also known as bay laurel (for success and prestige wishes)
rosemary (for promotion and advanced wishes), cinnamon (for power wishes) and vervain (for general wishes).

Find a quiet spot outside under the waxing or full moon. Mix the herbs together in a small glass jar and start to visualize your wish coming true. Imagine what it will be like to experience your wish in real life. Cast your circle as you normally would and invite the elements and the God and Goddess into your circle. Hold your herbs up to your mouth and breathe out onto the jar. This will force the wish through your body and into the vessel. Once you’ve blessed the herbs, pour about a quarter of them into your palm.

Turn facing North and say:

“God of the north wind, by the powers of earth,
I call you to carry my wish to the northern quarter,
And by the powers of the gnomes, I ask that you bring me success.”

Blow a quarter of the powdered herb from your palm in the direction of North. Pour another quarter into your hand.

Turn to the East and say:

“God of the East Wind, by the power of air,
I call you to carry my wish to the Eastern quarter,
And by the powers of sylphs, I ask that you bring me success.”

Blow a quarter of the powdered herb to the East and then pour another quarter into your palm.

Turn to the South and say:

“God of the south wind, by the powers of fire,
I call you to carry my wish to the southern quarter,
and by the powers of Salamanders, I ask that you bring me success.”

Blow a quarter to the south, and pour the remainder of the the herbs into your hand.

Turn to the west and say:

“God of the west wind, By the powers of water, I call you
to carry my wish to the western quarter and by the powers of undines, I
ask that you bring me success.”

Blow the final quarter to the of herb to the west.

Leave the area without looking back and take comfort knowing that the powers of the universe have taken over your wish.

Brightest Blessings,

Rose Ariadne
